St. Paul-de-Vence and Grasse "the capital of Perfume"
The day started with a coach bus trip into the hill town of St. Paul-de-Vence. There was a tour of the Fondation Maeght museum. You had to pay if you wanted to take photos of the art at this museum. I enjoyed the art work of quite an array of artist. One artist whose work was numerous here was Joan Miró. I was able to get photos of some of the large scale sculptures in the yard.
Next we spent free time in the hill town, St. Paul-de-Vence village. Marc Chagall is buried in the cemetery here. Time was spent roaming the shopping area, taking in the sweeping views of vineyards, art studios, book stores, restaurants and a candy store that specialized in cookies and chocolates. I visited the candy store and bought a bulk bag of cookies. These cookies were divine, I saved some for later in my hotel room. Some tourist had lunch at the famous restaurant, La Colombe d’Or with the famous art work collection. My lunch was a delicious chicken panini sandwich.
Our last stop was Grasse to visit the Fragonard Perfume factory. This was one of the highlights of the tour for me, going to this perfume factory. I enjoyed this tour and learning about perfume making. There was a perfume whiffing (smelling). I learned the areas to properly apply perfume.
