I'm Sharon from Chicago. I love, love, love to travel. This is my second Rick Steves' tour. As you see, I'm a neophyte when it comes to Rick Steves' tours. Both tours have been in France. This is my second trip to Nice. I was looking for a tour that was not long and minimum hotel changes. I also liked the locations of this tour. This tour had me at HELLO! This is a new tour in the Rick Steves' tour inventory. It was first offered in 2012 to start in early 2013.
I flew over 10 hours on a total of two planes, literally off one plane and onto another plane. Once in the Nice airport I started following my Rick Steves’ hotel instructions to get the # 98 Bus to the hotel. I decided to get off at the Hotel Negresco bus stop, since I've been here before, and walk to the hotel (I stayed at this hotel too). It was a joy to walk on the Promenade des Anglais again. It was about a three-four block walk to the Nice Marche aux Fleurs hotel.
I really embarrassed myself when I got to the hotel. Instead of saying Boujour Madame, I said Merci Madame. This showed my confusion for a lack of sleep from my central time in the US to Nice time in France.
This is Day zero for me, which is the day before the tour started. I walked the Cours Saleya and found restaurants for lunch and dinner. I found a restaurant for lunch, which was a pasta dish and I had two desserts. After lunch, I stopped at the grocery store for some bottles of water and stash of chocolate, European chocolate is so good to me. Once in my hotel room, I prepared to make this my home for the next seven days. I also purchased some lavender water to spray in my room. Lavender is a sleep aid, I needed all the help I could get to help with my jet leg.
my Tip: While in Nice, the major news back home in the US was the “government shut down”. Most people try not to watch TV while on vacation, this is when I turn into a news junkie -- while in my room. I need to know if
I should toss the toothpaste tube before leaving, take all liquids out my bags, or just pack my bag and head for the airport. So CNN and BBC are well watched -- while I’m in the room.
Lets start the tour, Day 1/un: Welcome to Nice
